Mission
The Federation operates in Finland, is registered in the Finnish-British associations and clubs, and as the English Clubs umbrella organization.
The Federation aims to:
- engage in information and publishing activities in Finland and Great Britain;
- support and promote cultural exchanges between the countries;
- help and serve the member organisations, promoting their mutual interaction and the organization of tours and lectures and theatrical events to local associations;
- promote English language teaching;
- maintain contacts with the authorities and with similar goal seeking organisations;
- organize trips to Britain.
The Federation has organized activities throughout the period, including various forms of seminars. The main topics were the English language, culture, literature, presentation skills and many other international issues. Seminars are intended for the local association representatives, teachers unions, but they are also open to English-language teachers and other interested parties. Seminar speakers are mainly British, various university teachers. The programs are in the English language.
The Federation also organises a national English-language essay and participation in a national debating competition for high school children.
The Federation also publishes the magazine Finn-Brits Magazine, which comes out 1-2 times per year. Available in the Helsinki club or from the operations manager.
Confederation of projects and activities are supported by the British Embassy, British Council and the Helsinki University of English Language Institute. Many different events have been organized in cooperation with them.
