The Federation of Finnish-British Societies is an umbrella organisation set up in 1989 to promote British culture and language in Finland. Originally this focused on coordinating the activities of the native-language teachers in individual clubs located throughout Finland, from Kouvola to Kerava and many places in between. More recently the Federation has concentrated on supporting youth initiatives like the High School Essay Competition and the High School Debating Championships and a yearly Seminar on British Culture held at the British Embassy. In addition it maintains contacts with authorities in Finland, and with organisations seeking similar goals in both countries like the British Council and the Finnish Institute in London.
